life as a digital nomad on madeira feels timeless.
with a stunning natural environment, countless ways of spending the day on the island, a high fluactuation in people coming and staying with broad spectrum of interests:
it’s paradise if you are able to establish some kind of daily routine, close circle of friends or people that you can talk to and goals you are working towards to.
after a while, you’ll figure out (ideally) how to spend your energy & time efficiently. constant fomo, oversocialising and too much exposure to adventure & excitement can quickly lead to emotional burnout and everyone travelling or nomading longterm knows what i’m talking about.
life-life balance is a thing 😉
this week, i spent lots of time in front of the screens, as well as enjoying life off-screen to the max.
most of it happens spontaneously without me planning anything and i love how the island always bring people & opportunities together at the right time.
so, here are my unplanned highlights. enjoy!
1. morning routine at the beach
it was only a week ago that i thought about looking for an accountability partner for getting up before sunrise to do morning routine at the beach.
well, the universe connected me with laila, a woman that i bumped into one day (story for another time) and we met a few times in the morning to do our practices while watching the most beautiful sunrise. as myself, she is also into journaling which is a really nice way to set the intention for the day and get all the thoughts & ideas out. the vast ocean in front makes dreaming easier and it feels timeless to start the mornings in that way… <3
2. hippie party in front of my door
i’ve been living under a rock lately, so you can imagine my surprise when i was preparing myself for going to bed on a monday evening and suddenly hear hippie music blasting through the streets!
apparently, around carnival time every year, there is a hippie party in ponta do sol, where within a day the whole main street is turned into a hippie dance floor with decorations, music and dressed up people everywhere. the vibe was infectious, so i quickly put on some flower shirt and went down for a dance.
3. meeting people at the cowork
the cowork is a center of people mingling and often times a quick bathroom break turns into a 3o mins conversation with someone that you know.
fortunately, i didn’t had too much work that day, so i could enjoy some light chatting. spontaneously went for a drink with view in a nearby hotel with a friend.
4. acupres board
i participated in a 1h workshop where these boards where introduced and it was an incredible experience. after only half an hour of massaging hands, arms feet with the nails (yes, they do hurt, but it is a nice, relaxing pain, if you surrender to it), I could already feel more capacity in my chest to breathe. In the end, I noticed how stimulating the acupressure points removed some energy blockages in my body. I felt lighter and enjoyed the natural high.
5. sketchy hike
we like to call sketchy hike those hikes that you can’t find on google maps and mostly not on any other conventional map 😉
they are adventurous and often times challenges you to think out of the box and create pathways as you go. i didn’t know the majority of people from that group, but we all quickly bonded very well and had a fun time together.
